Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to the questions we are asked most often about commercial and industrial roof coatings, liquid waterproofing and related services. Cannot find what you need? Get in touch and we will be happy to help.
Get in touch via our website or phone with the site address, roof type, and approximate area if you know it. For larger or more complex jobs — cut edge corrosion treatment, liquid waterproofing, cladding spraying and steel protection— we'll usually want to do a proper survey before pricing. For straightforward work we can sometimes quote from drawings or photos. We cover the whole of the UK, so location rarely rules anything out. Turnaround on quotes is normally within a few working days.
Yes, for most jobs a site visit makes sense before we commit to a price. It lets us check the roof condition properly — membrane state, gutter wear, any cut edge corrosion — rather than guessing from photos. We cover the whole of the UK from our Norfolk base, so travel isn't usually a problem. Just share the site address and any access requirements and we'll arrange a time that works. We can also attend formal tender meetings if the project needs it.
It depends on the substrate and what the roof needs. For metal roofs with cut edge corrosion we use specialist primers and flexible liquid coatings. For gutters we often specify Plygene gutter lining or liquid-applied systems depending on gutter profile and condition. Products like Elastaseal Z come up regularly on asphalt or fibre-cement surfaces. We select materials based on the job rather than stocking a single system, so coverage rates and quantities are worked out once we've assessed the roof.
Roof cleaning and gutter clearance are a standard part of most of our projects — surfaces need to be properly prepared before any coating goes down. We also carry out balcony and walkway waterproofing using liquid-applied systems, and general surface protection work on concrete and masonry. We don't offer general rubbish removal or skip hire, but we leave sites tidy. If you're unsure whether a job falls within what we do, just call or message and we'll tell you straight.
It varies quite a bit depending on roof size, condition, and what system is being applied. A straightforward cut edge corrosion treatment on a medium-sized industrial unit might take two or three days. A full liquid waterproofing project with gutter lining can run to a week or more. Weather plays a part too — most coatings need dry conditions and minimum temperatures to cure properly. We'll give you a realistic programme when we quote and keep you updated if anything changes on site.
Often yes, but it depends on the condition. If the sheets are structurally sound and the main problems are cut edge corrosion, or failing sealants, a coating system is usually a cost-effective alternative to re-roofing. We assess things like sheet thickness, rust penetration, and existing coating adhesion before recommending anything. Flashings and abutments can generally be treated at the same time. If the metal is too far gone, we'll tell you honestly rather than coat over a problem that coating can't fix.
Yes, cladding respraying is one of our core services. We clean and prepare the surface, treat any corrosion, prime where needed, and apply a spray-applied coating to restore appearance and protection. It works on steel and aluminium cladding, including built-up systems and composite panels. Rainwater goods and flashings can be included in the same programme. It's considerably cheaper than overcladding or replacement and, done properly, gives a durable finish. We price by the project once we know the area and access situation.
Yes, leak investigation is something we do regularly. Gutters are a common culprit — cracked joints, failed sealant, or corrosion letting water track back under the roof sheet. We'll inspect the full run rather than just the reported problem area. Where gutters need more than a repair, Plygene gutter lining is a long-term solution that effectively creates a new waterproof skin inside the existing gutter. We'll give you a written report of what we find and options for fixing it.
Yes. Flat roofs — whether felt, single-ply membrane, or aspalt— are well suited to liquid waterproofing systems, which bond directly to the existing surface and seal around upstands, rooflights, and penetrations. We'll survey first to check how far any water ingress has tracked, since saturated insulation needs addressing before coating. For offices and occupied buildings we can usually phase the work to minimise disruption. A temporary repair is possible in some cases, but a full liquid waterproofing application is nearly always the better answer.
Warranty length depends on the system specified and the substrate — typically anywhere from 10 to 20 years for a properly installed liquid waterproofing application. The warranty covers the waterproofing integrity of the coating itself. It's conditional on the surface being correctly prepared and primed before application, which is why we don't cut corners on prep. Some manufacturers, such as those behind Elastaseal Z, offer their own single point guarantees covering our workmanship warranty. We'll confirm the exact terms in writing as part of the quote.
