What Is Cut Edge Corrosion?

Cut edge corrosion is one of the most common problems affecting profiled metal roofing on industrial and commercial buildings across the UK. It occurs where the protective coating on metal roof sheets has been cut during manufacture or installation, exposing the raw steel underneath to moisture and the elements. Over time, this unprotected edge rusts and the corrosion spreads along the sheet overlaps and gutters, eventually leading to leaks and structural damage if left untreated.

Cut Edge Corrosion Treatment Process

We then apply a specialist primer to stabilise any remaining corrosion before sealing with a flexible, weather-resistant coating system. On this Derby project, we treated over 1,700 linear metres of cut edge corrosion across the full length of the building. The treatment was completed with minimal disruption to the business operating below, as all work is carried out from the roof level.
